Supra THC, is a state of the art Chemical Analysis Laboratory, specializing in research, analysis and development. Located in the heart of the Okanagan, in Kelowna, BC, Supra THC is uniquely situated, to supply analytical services to companies and organizations from east to west and north to south.

The scientific team at Supra, has extensive experience in all aspects of chemical analysis and analytical instrumentation, especially Mass Spectrometry based approaches. The team has also developed innovative new approaches to chemical extraction of biomass and to chemical analysis of THC.

Analytical Service

A number of analytical services are offered, primarily for the Cannabis industry. Here is a partial list:

Instruments being used to conduct analysis, will include:

Thermo TSQ 8000 EVO GCMSMS system:
This system is the most advanced quantitative GCMSMS Quadrupule system on the market.  The TriPLUS RSH autosampler system that is capable of running Liquid, Head Space and Solid Phase Micro-Extraction (SPME) samples. This system is used for trace Pesticide analysis, PCB/Dioxin Analysis, Residual Solvent analysis and some Cannabinoid and Terpene profile work.

Varian 3900 GC with Varian 2000 Ion Trap MS system:
An older technology MS system, that is used primarily for enantiomer profiles.  This approach will be used to aid with terpene profiling and complex fingerprinting.

Thermo LCQ – Deca LCMS system:
This system is used primarily for R&D relating to ionization source development and ambient ionization research that will lead to real time detection of key analytes.

Thermo UltiMate™ 3000, with variable UV detection and Fluorescence Detection:
The new UHPLC system is used to generate cannabinoid profiles without the thermal degradation that occurs in GC analysis. This will also be used for sensitive mycotoxin analysis, specifically analysis for Aflatoxins.

Owlstone’s Lonestar Portable Analyzer (FAIMS technology):
Primarily used for R&D relating to portable real time analysis.  Work is currently being done on real time THC, Cannabinoid and Terpene analysis.

Other instrumentation may be used as demand dictates.

Dr. Rob O’Brien, PhD, was a professor in Analytical Chemistry for over 13 years and has greater than 25 years’ experience in analytical chemistry. An expert in analytical instrumentation, he has set up a number of advanced analytical laboratories, and has held an executive position in a number of commercial enterprises. Dr. O’Brien possesses a track record of successful commercialization of intellectual property developed from academic research. During his academic career, Dr. O’Brien secured over 3 Million dollars in research grants and has developed an extensive network of research collaborators.

Anderson Smith, B.Sc., has been involved in the analytical chemistry industry for 13 years in several critical roles, notably Western Canada Service Manager and Canadian Service Business Development leader for one of Canada’s largest instrument vendors.  Prior to joining the instrumentation industry, Anderson was a primary analyst in a major analytical contract lab in Vancouver, with the food residue and food chemistry division.  During his time with the laboratory, he developed several standard methods for the analysis of various analytes in a number of raw food matrices utilizing LCMSMS detection.  A selection of these methods were published or presented as posters at analytical chemistry conferences.  He has recently developed extensive expertise in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and in securing laboratory accreditation.
